A STATE GOVERNMENT DIGITAL STRATEGY

Jata Negeri Sarawak

BRIDGING THE
DIGITAL GAP
ACROSS SARAWAK

Digitalizing Sarawak with better and improved connectivity through the SALURAN initiative.

Introduction

SALURAN initiative was introduced to
ensure connectivity across Sarawak

In 2018, the state Government launched the Sarawak Digital Strategy. The main highlight of the development is to build a robust digital infrastructure that widens the coverage and provides connectivity all over Sarawak.

Hence, SALURAN – a Sarawak government initiative was implemented. SALURAN stands for Sarawak Linking Urban, Rural, and Nation which ensures that Sarawakians living in the Urban and Rural areas can have decent connectivity and access to the internet.

MCMC together with SMA is helping to accelerate the state Government’s SALURAN initiatives. Among the objectives are:

Extending 4G Network Reach

Expanding Telecommunication Coverage

Upgrading Existing Infrastructure

Initiatives

SALURAN provides initiatives for the
people of Sarawak

The Sarawak government’s commitment is to build Sarawak Multimedia Authority Rural Telecommunication (SMART) towers apart from the existing 3100 Towers and structures. This enables telco companies such as Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile, MySRBN by SDEC, and others to provide mobile broadband services.

In some far-reaching areas with no terrestrial backhaul such as relay towers and fiber, the agency will install Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) to provide broadband via Satellite as an interim solution. Apart from this, the SALURAN initiative also includes the JENDELA program by MCMC.

Components

SALURAN has a few components to make
the initiative a reality
A Digital Transformation Initiative in Sarawak

A project created to bridge the Sarawak's Digital Divide existing between the rural and urban areas while accommodating to the needs of rural areas students.

Provide wider connectivity and an improved internet experience

A comprehensive digital infrastructure plan which is aimed to solve the increasing needs and desire for an improved coverage all over states in Malaysia.

Capable of providing fast broadband speed coverage

A program highlighted for the successful application of the Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) which provides better coverage up to 3KM-radius.

Agencies

SALURAN is made possible with the
help of various Agencies in Malaysia

These agencies work together through the establishment of the digital infrastructure development committee where they will oversee the planning and monitoring of the digital infrastructure rollout in the State of Sarawak.

Testimonials

SALURAN initiative gave a huge impact
to the company
"I used to think that my telco line was acceptable before MySRBN came into my hometown. The MySRBN has indeed provided me with a superior internet experience. I now able to utilize the Internet for almost everything because of the speed it offers."
JACKSON AK MINGGAI

"I am glad that the government has initiated this home broadband initiative. Previously, we relied heavily on mobile networks, which, in my opinion, were frequently disappointing in terms of speed, particularly when it comes to online learning."
